About
23 years ago, we opened our Wasai Retro main store on Kagurazaka Street near Bishamonten to bring the delicious cuisine of Tokamachi Niigata for you to experience right here in Tokyo. In 2017, we opened our Bettei Musubi store with the vision of creating a space where you can relax and enjoy your meal in the comfort of a private room. And in 2022 we renovated our private tatami rooms into fully private table-and-chair type rooms, transforming them into a cosy space where you can easily relax. We have also ensured your well-being installing infection prevention measures (we hope you can have peace of mind in a room equipped with air cleaners, ventilated windows, and ventilated air conditioning). Our dishes are wholeheartedly and deliciously prepared in-house using the best ingredients from Niigata Prefecture, with many sourced straight from Tokamachi. Among them, we recommend our Niigata brand pork, hegi soba noodles (a local specialty from Tokamachi), Koshihikari rice from the Uonuma district of Niigata, extra-thick premium zenmei (Asian royal fern) from Tokamachi, as well as sake from the long established Matsunoi Sake Brewery in Tokamachi Niigata. Other local Niigata sakes are also available, including limited-edition sakes distributed only in Niigata Prefecture which the owner himself has procured through his own personal connections. Lovingly handmade everyday by my mother who was born in Tokamachi Niigata in 1944. “Mother’s assortment of 3 side dishes” are an absolute must-try. Here at Wasai Retro we will never say “I’ll just quit the restaurant if I can’t make good food anymore”. All of our staff are completely committed with one heart and soul to bring you carefully prepared and delicious handmade food every day. Nothing makes us happier than when a customer says “It was so delicious, I’ll be back again” Covid has taught us the happiness of being able to have a relaxing and enjoyable time with loved ones. The beauty of being able to see each other’s faces, indulge in delicious food and drink, and share laughter and happy times together. May we share the joy of living to the fullest and feel the hope the future has to bring. We welcome our customers with a sense of happiness that we are able to help them in this way.
